The GPSMAP 8612xsv centers on an 11.6-inch diagonal in-plane switching display at 1920 by 1080 full HD resolution. The panel is designed for helm use in direct sunlight and splits across charts, radar, and sonar views.
The xsv designation marks the built-in sonar: 1 kW dual-channel CHIRP traditional sonar plus ClearVu and SideVu scanning sonar, so the sounder is included rather than added separately. BlueChart g3 coastal charts come preloaded.
Networking runs over NMEA 2000 and the Garmin Marine Network, with Wi-Fi included. The unit connects to radar, autopilot, instruments, and entertainment systems, and shares sonar, maps, and user data with other Garmin units on the network. The internal receiver tracks GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo at 10 Hz, and the unit is rated IPX7.
